In Memory

Evelyn Berry (Hawkins)

Evelyn Marie Berry-Hawkins entered eternal rest on June 19, 2017 at the age of 67.  She was born in Jennings, Louisiana to McKinley Berry Sr. and Ethel Berry on April 14, 1950.  She accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at the age of six and was baptized at The Little Sunlight Baptist Church in Silverwood, Louisiana.  She was educated in the Lake Charles public school system; where she graduated in 1968 from Washington High School.  Evelyn loved the Lord and was a member of the First New Life Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Dwight Barker until she was called home to be with the Lord.

Evelyn was employed for the Lake Charles Independent School District, as a substitute teacher for many years and worked for the City of Lake Charles Voter Polls until her illness.  She was a lady who always put her best into all of her endeavors.  She dedicated her life to serving others and never hesitated to give a helping hand to her family, friends, neighbors, and community.

She was blessed with two wonderful children, Derick D. Berry and Deidra D. Berry whom she deeply loved. Evelyn married the love of her life, Jeffery L. Hawkins. They shared several beautiful years together until he went home to be with the Lord. She often referred to him as Husband instead of Jeff, and he called her Wife.  Together they formed a strong lasting bond with her children and grandchildren.
